Black Sabbath, originally called Polka Tulk Blues Band, is an English rock band from Birmingham that spearheaded the mutation of rock music to heavy metal. The group was formed in 1968 by lead vocalist Ozzy Osbourne, guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler, and drummer Bill Ward. The makeup of the band changed over the years to include artists like Ian Gillan, Glenn Hughes, and Ray Gillen. The band has released over 18 albums throughout their active years and went on over 30 international tours that they headlined. Black Sabbath has won multiple awards including a Kerrang! Inspiration Award, a Kerrang! Artist of the Millenium Award, two Grammy Awards for Best Metal Performance, and a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
