Mel Gibson Bio

Mel Gibson was born on January 3, 1956 in Peekskill, New York. He started acting work in Australian films such as Summer City (1977) and Mad Max (1979). He earned critical acclaim for his work on Gallipoli in 1982. He starred in two sequels for Mad Max before moving to American films, such as The River (1984) and Lethal Weapon (1987).

He worked on Disney’s Pocahontas in 1995. The ‘90s also provided Gibson with roles in Braveheart, the Lethal Weapon sequels and Ransom. In 2000, Gibson starred in The Patriot, Chicken Run and What Women Want. He later went on to star in the war drama We Were Soldiers as well as the thriller Signs. He appeared in 2010 in Edge of Darkness. His awards are innumerable, including Academy Awards and a Golden Globe Award for his directing along with several AACTA Awards and a People’s Choice Award. He is one of the most renowned directors in Hollywood history.
