Samantha Crain is a Choctaw-American singer, songwriter, and musician who performs indie and folk-rock music. She was born in Shawnee, Oklahoma, United States, on August 15, 1986. Samantha began her music career in 2004 as a member of the band Midnight Shivers, but she released her debut solo project You (Understood) in 2010. Her discography includes the hit singles Bloomsday, Pastime, Santa Fe, Holding to the Edge of Night, and the studio projects Songs in the Night, Under Branch & Thorn Tree, and You Had Me at Goodbye. Her music was featured in the album Other Voices: Series 12 alongside Hozier, Foy Vance, John Grant, and Patty Griffin. Samantha won two Native American Music Awards for Songwriter of the Year and Folk Album of the Year.
