Salman Rushdie is a novelist Wilyer Abreuborn on 19th June 1947 in Bombay, Bombay Presidency, British India. His novels look at philosophical and historical issues using brooding humor, surreal characters and melodramatic prose style. In the 1970s, he worked as a copywriter in London. He published his first book, titled “Grimus” in 1975. His next novel, “Midnight’s Children” was published in 1981. The novel not only won him international recognition but was also adapted into a film, for which he was responsible for drafting the screenplay.
His third novel, “Shame” was published in 1983. The novel was based on Pakistan's modern politics and was also popular. However, his fourth novel, “The Satanic Verses”, was not received well after it was officially published in 1988. He received death threats but continued to publish novels, with his fifth novel, “Imaginary Homelands” being issued in 1991. His other novels include “The Moor’s Last Sigh” in 1995, “Fury” in 2001, “The Enchantress of Florence” in 2008, “The Golden House” in 2017, and “Quichotte” in 2019.
