Reynold Poernomo was born in Indonesia in 1997 and moved to Australia with his family when he was four years old.
His parents had seven popular restaurants in Indonesia but were forced to leave due to the country's economic turmoil and start over. In Australia, they had to work long hours as restaurant employees, and Reynold was frequently alone at home.
At the age of 14, he became interested in food after reading about chefs like Grant Achatz (Alinea), Francisco Mitoya (Frozen), Ferran Adrià (El Bulli), and Gordon Ramsey. "I enjoyed these books because they told a story about discovery, a universe of ingredients, scents, recollections, sensations, and so on."
The books served as the foundation to his successful career today.
