Rob Reiner Bio

Robert Reiner was born on March 6, 1947 in the Bronx, New York City. He is the son of a very famous comedian, Carl Reiner, and he studied at UCLA’s film school. He got the first of several prominent roles in 1971 when he played Michael Stivic on the chart-topping series All in the Family, which ran until 1976. For this role, he won two Emmy Awards and received three Emmy nominations along with five Golden Globe nominations.

Rob collaborated with Phil Mishkin in 1972 to produce ABC’s The Super, which ran for ten episodes. He is also known for directing several high-grossing films such as This is Spinal Tap (1984), Stand by Me (1986), and The Princess Bride (1987). He created his own company in 1987 with Martin Shafer, Andrew Scheinman, Glenn Padnick and Alan Horn. With this company, Reiner has directed legendary films such as When Harry Met Sally, a Few Good Men, and Misery.

Reiner hasn’t taken on any lead parts within the last few years, but he has appeared in supporting roles in productions such as Sleepless in Seattle with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan, The Wolf of Wall Street with Leonardo DiCaprio, and 30 Rock with Tina Fey. He now spends a lot of time participating in liberal activism events instead of acting; however, he has taken on a recurring role on New Girl (2012–present).
