Naomi Saalfield, widely known as Nai Palm, is a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist born in Melbourne, Australia, on May 15, 1989. Her genres of music include neo-soul, hip-hop, future soul, and jazz-funk. She is influenced by Björk, Billie Holiday, Lauryn Hill, Oumou Sangare, Stevie Wonder, and Michael Jackson.
Nai is the lead singer and chief songwriter of the independent group Hiatus Kaiyote. She formed the group with bassist Paul Bender, drummer Perrin Moss, and keyboardist Simon Mavin. They have opened for Taylor McFerrin. The group released its debut album Tawk Tomahawk in April 2012, followed by Choose Your Weapon in May 2015.
Nai received nominations for Best R&B Performance at the 56th and 58th Annual GRAMMY Awards. She is associated with Flying Buddha and Sony Masterworks. Anderson.Paak (Malibu), Drake (More Life), and Kendrick Lamar (DAMN) have sampled her music. She did a solo performance at Malthouse Outdoor Stage. Nai released her debut solo album, Needle Paw, in 2017.
