Austin Agustín Santos was born on December 23, 1985 in New York City, New York. Santos is better known as Arcángel. He relocated to Puerto Rico in 2002. His reggaeton sound was influenced by a combination of Latin American music, hip-hop, and Carribean music. While he was in Puerto Rico, he was one part of a popular reggaeton group called Arcángel & De La Ghetto. In the mid-2000s, songs such as “Agresivo”, “Sorpresa” and “Mi Fanática” gained him popularity in both Puerto Rico and the United States. In late 2008, his debut studio album, El Fenómeno, was released and includes songs like “Pa’ Que la Pases Bien”, “Por Amar a Ciegas”, and many others. These songs became some of the most-played songs on American Latin Urban radio stations in America.
