Ian Gillan Bio

Ian Gillan (who’s sometimes known by his nickname Papa G) is a British singer and lyricist who was born on August 19th, 1945. He was born and raised in Chiswick, Middlesex in England. He attended the Acton County Grammar School.

Ian’s career started with a stint with several bands like 'Garth Rockett' and 'The Moonshiners'. Ian rose to fame as the lead singer and lyricist of the band 'Deep Purple'. He replaced David Coverdale as the lead singer of the band. He also once fronted the group 'Episode Six' before pursuing a successful solo career. He is also famous for receiving the Medal of Honor from the President of Armenia for his support after an earthquake in Armenia in December 1988.
