David Olakotunbo Alaba is an Austrian professional soccer player born in Vienna in 1992. He is a versatile player playing many positions but plays at his strongest as a left-back. He started training as a child with the FK Austria Wien team, and in 2008 he started qualifying as a bench substitute in Bundesliga matches. In the summer of 2008, he joined Germany’s Bayern Munich under 17 and under 19 training squads. In the 2009-2010 UEFA Champions season he qualified as a reserve for the main team. In 2013 the athlete renewed his contract with Bayern Munich and played in the FIFA Club World Cup. As an international player, Alaba became the youngest player in the history of the Austrian national team, debuting at only 17 in 2009. In 2014 he became Austria’s top scorer in FIFA’s World Cup, having scored six goals. In 2015 he was voted for best left-back in 2015’s FIFA.com’s Team of the Year. Alaba has also performed as a substitute captain for Austria’s national team.
