Keira Knightley Bio

Keira Christina Knightley, or simply Keira Knightley to most people, is an English actress and model born on March 26, 1985 in Teddington, Middlesex, England. She made her debut as an actress in A Village Affair (1995), but her first big break came with Star Wars: The Phantom Menace (1999). Then, in 2002, she starred in Bend It Like Beckham, which became a smash hit in Britain. But what catapulted Knightley into fame was when she starred in Pirates of the Carribean (2003) as Elizabeth Swann. The worldwide box office hit became her ticket to more opportunities in Hollywood. In 2005, she portrayed Elizabeth Bennet in the movie adaptation of Pride and Prejudice and her performance garnered critical acclaim, earning her a nomination for Best Actress at the Academy Awards that year. She was once again nominated for the category in 2014, when she starred as Joan Clarke in The Imitation Game.
