Ali Shirazinia, better known as Dubfire, was born on April 19, 1971, in Mashad, Iran. As a teenager, he was heavily influenced by a variety of musical genres, and would frequent the local record shops to learn about new artists. By the time he was 20, he had already moved from Iran to Washington, D.C., and linked up with friend Sharam Tayebi to create a DJ duo that they called Deep Dish. After gaining recognition for remixing some of the big songs of the late ’90s, the two began their own company known as Deep Dish Records. They later released their debut album Junk Science in 1998.
The album release was enough of an impetus to afford them a world tour, and have since remixed the works of Madonna, Dido, and the Rolling Stones, to name just a few artists. In honor of their remix work on Dido’s song “Thank You”, the two won a Grammy Award in 2002. They were named #10 out of the Top 100 DJs in the UK-based DJ Magazine in 2001. By himself, Dubfire went on to create a new record label in 2007 which he called Science + Technology Audio, through which countless energetic nightclub tracks were released. He was nominated as Beatport’s Best Minimal Artist and Best Techno Artist in 2008 and in 2009, and collaborates frequently with other well-known DJs such as Loco Dice.
