John Coger Martling Jr. popularly known as Jackie Martling (who’s also nicknamed The Chief or The Jokeman) is an American actor, writer, radio personality, singer, and comedian who was born on February 14th, 1948 in Mineola, Long Island, New York, United States. He graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1971.
Jackie’s standup career began in 1979 and he started on radio with Howard Stern at WNBC-AM in 1983. He is best remembered as the head writer for The Howard Stern Show from 1983 to 2001. As a writer, he published Disgustingly Dirty Joke Book and The Joke Man: Bow to Stern. As a musical artist, he dropped his comedy album What Did You Expect? in 1979. Some of his most popular songs include Flies, The Pot Song, The Beer Song, and Fool’s Gold. As a writer and actor, he is best known for his work on Private Parts (1997), St. Joseph (2018), and Jokebitch (2005).
