Javier Mascherano is a former professional football player from Argentina. Born on 8th June 1984, Mascherano played as a center-back/defensive midfielder. He played his youth football with the Argentine club River Plate. He later joined Corinthians, making a total of 17 appearances for the Brazilian club. In 2006, he joined the English club West Ham. The following year, he joined Liverpool and made his debut on 24th February 2007 in a match against Sheffield United.
Mascherano made 94 appearances for Liverpool, scoring one goal. In August 2020, he moved to Barcelona on a four-year deal. He played seven and a half seasons for the Spanish club, making 203 appearances and scoring one goal. He then moved to Hebei China Fortune in January 2018 and then Estudiantes in November 2019. Internationally, Mascherano made 147 appearances for the Argentina national team.
