On June 16, 1976, the Colombian Vallenato trio Binomio de Oro de América was created in the Caribbean Region of Colombia by lead vocalist Rafael Orozco and accordionist Israel Romero. In the 1980s and 1990s, the group gained mainstream fame in Venezuela, particularly in the city of Maracaibo, and in Mexico, primarily in the city of Monterrey. The Latin Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences bestows the Latin Grammy Award for remarkable achievement in the music industry. Four nominations have been received for El Binomio de Oro de América.
