Rebecca St. James Bio
Rebecca Jean Smallbone (popularly known by her stage name Rebecca St. James) is an Australian gospel singer and actress who was born on July 26th 1977 in Sydney, Australia. She was born in Sydney, but was raised in Nashville when they moved in 1991 because of her father’s work.
In the same, she released her debut full-length effort Refresh My Heart, as Rebecca Jean. She then signed to Forefront Records and adopted a stage name Rebecca St. James. She released another album Rebecca St. James in 1994 and got a Dove Award nomination for New Artist of the Year. God, her third album, was released in June 1996 and it peaked at #200 on the Billboard 200, reaching as high as #6 in the Top Christian Albums chart. Her fifth full-length effort Pray followed in 1998 and it broke into the Christian Top Five and won her first Grammy Award. Amidst other releases, Rebecca also appeared onscreen in 2004’s !Hero: The Rock Opera and also released the Billboard 200-charting live album Live Worship: Blessed Be Your Name.
She later prioritized writing and acting and appeared in movies such as The Frontier Boys (2012), Faith of Our Fathers (2015), Loved: Stories of Forgiveness, and Suing the Devil (where she starred alongside Malcolm McDowell). She also published a number of novels with co-writer Nancy Rue.
