Widely regarded as one of the genre's founding fathers, Blow emerged in the late 1970s and early 1980s as one of its earliest and most influential rap artists. Blow's impact extends beyond his own musical contributions; he is credited with helping to popularize rap music and break it into the mainstream. His breakthrough came with his 1980 hit single "The Breaks," which became the first certified gold record rap song and propelled him to international fame. Throughout his career, he released several albums, including "Kurtis Blow," "Deuce," and "Kingdom Blow," which showcased his versatile style and lyrical prowess.
