Jorge Dulio Lima Menezes (born March 22, 1942) is a Brazilian popular musician who has been performing under the stage name Jorge Ben Jor since the 1980s, but he was previously known as Jorge Ben.
His distinct sound combines samba, funk, rock, and bossa nova with witty and satirical lyrics about frequently arcane subjects. "Chove Chuva," "Mas Que Nada," "Ive Brussel," and "Balança Pema" are among his songs, which have been covered by Caetano Veloso, Sérgio Mendes, Miriam Makeba, Soulfly, and Marisa Monte.
Ben's open-minded and unique approach to samba allowed him to participate in some of the most major musical trends in Brazilian popular music, including bossa nova, Jovem Guarda, and Tropicália, the latter of which was characterized by the band Tropicália.
