Manika Batra Bio

Manika Batra is a professional Indian table tennis player who was born on June 15th, 1995 in Delhi, India. She was the youngest of three children, the rest were a boy and a girl. She started playing table tennis when she was four. She attended the Hansraj Model School and the Jesus and Mary College, but she ended up dropping out of the latter. She rejected a lot of modeling offers to focus on her table tennis career.

Manika won a state-level tournament in the under-8 category and then got into intensive training with the pro coach Sandeep Gupta. She soon became the best tennis player in Delhi and by 2018 she proved to be one of the best table tennis players in India’s history. She won three medals at the Gold Coast Commonwealth games, a gold, a silver, and a bronze. She became the first Indian to win the CWG Women’s single event, defeating Singapore’s Mengyu four to nil.

Her other achievements include a silver medal in the 2011 under-21 category of the Chile Open, three gold medals at the 2016 South Asian games and another three at the 2015 Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships, the Rajiv Gandhi Ratna award in 2020, and another three gold at the South Asian Games in 2016.
