Phoebe Hunt was born Shanti Phoebe Hunt in Austin, Texas on 3rd of June 1984. She is an American singer, songwriter, and instrumentalist currently based in Brooklyn, New York. She learned music while attending the Austin Montessori School from 1990-1996 under the tutelage of Marcia Ehlers. After AMS, Phoebe went to Bailey Middle School, Bouie High School, and then to the University of Texas. It was at the University of Texas that she played and toured with The Hudsons, a local band. She also played with artists like Ben Sollee, Shaky, Graves, and The Belleville Outfit. She released the album Shanti’s Shadow in 2017 with some musicians she gathered in New York. Shanti’s Shadow was so good that it led Rolling Stone to name her one of “10 Country Artists You Need to Know.” in 2017. It marked her arrival and solidified her place as one of the best country musicians of her time. Phoebe gave a Tedx Talk in November 2017 where she explained how music and songwriting can be used to sing one's pain away. Phoebe visits Austin regularly to see her family and has been a loyal supporter of AMS.
