Frank Mir, also known as Francisco Santos Mir III, is an American professional martial artist born in Las Vegas, Nevada, in 1979. He trained in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Kenpo Karate before being associated with Joe Silva, who helped him make his mixed martial arts debut at the UFC in 2001. In 2004 he won the 48 UFC Championship against Tim Sylvia. In 2008 he won the Interim Heavyweight Championship. In the following years, he developed a rivalry with fighter Brock Lesnar. In 2013 he came in second place for the UFC 191 heavyweight championship, and in 2017 he made his debut in the Bellator promotion. Mir has also pursued acting, performing fighter roles for the action movies “Force of Execution” (2013) and “Gutshot Straight” (2014).
