Born as Ronald William Artest Jr., Metta World Peace is an American player development coach for the South Bay Lakers of the NBA G League and a former professional basketball player. He was born on November 13, 1979, in Queens, New York, United States. After playing college basketball at St. John's University for two years, his NBA career took off when he was selected by the Chicago Bulls in 1999. He played for Indiana Pacers (2002–2006), Sacramento Kings (2006–2008), Houston Rockets (2008–2009) and Los Angeles Lakers (2009–2013). His biggest achievement was winning the NBA Championship (2010) for the Los Angeles Lakers. He changed his name to Metta World Peace in 2011 to reflect the changes in his personality during his career and inspire the youth to be kind. The reinvented World Peace went on to play for the New York Knicks (2013–2014) and also signed with the Sichuan Blue Whales of the Chinese Basketball Association (2014) and Pallacanestro Cantù of Italy (2015). He secured his second stint with the Lakers (2015–2017) before starting his coaching career with the South Bay Lakers.
