Wayne Gretzky Bio
Wayne Douglas Gretzky is a former Canadian professional ice hockey player. Gretzky was born on January 26th, 1961 in Ontario, Canada, and he played in the National Hockey League from 1979 to 1999. He was nicknamed “The Great One” and he has been called “the greatest hockey player ever” by the NHL. He played for the Indianapolis Racers, the Edmonton Oilers, Los Angeles Kings, St Louis Blues and finally for the New York Rangers. He holds several records, for example like the leading scorer in the NHL, with more goals than any other player, and he is also the only NHL player to total over 200 points in one season, over four seasons. Upon his retirement in 1999, he had 61 NHL records: 6 All-Star records and 40 regular-season records. After the end of his career, Gretzky was inducted in the Hockey Hall of Fame and the NHL retired his jersey number (99) from the league. He is the only player of the NHL to have received such honor.
