Benjamin Louis Cardin, better known as Ben Cardin, is an accomplished American politician and lawyer best known for his extended stint as the senior United States senator from Maryland. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland, United States, on October 5, 1943.
Cardin first entered the political arena in 1966, when he was elected to the Maryland House of Delegates. He later served in the U.S. House of Representatives from Maryland's 3rd district for 20 years before being elected to the U.S. Senate in 2006. He has since been re-elected to the Senate three times and currently serves as the senior senator from Maryland.
Throughout his career, Cardin has been a champion for the issues that matter most to his constituents, including healthcare, education, environmental protection, and civil rights. He has also been a leading voice on foreign policy, serving as the Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and has been a staunch advocate for small businesses, serving as Ranking Member of the Senate Small Business Committee.
