Sydney McLaughlin Bio

Sprinter and hurdler, Sydney McLaughlin was born on 7th August 1999 in New Brunswick, New Jersey. She saw immense success since the early days of her career, becoming the 2015 World Youth Champion at 15. She was also the youngest athlete to qualify for the US Olympic Track Team. She holds the record in the world under-18 category for sprinting at 54.15 seconds. She also holds the Under-20 world record at 52.75s. Six of the seven fastest recorded times in the world all-time list are held by her. In 2019, she became the Diamond League Champion. In 2020 she won the Olympics in Tokyo with a record of 50.58 seconds. In a span of 13 months, she set four world records and became the first woman to break the 52 and 51 second barrier in the 400m hurdles. She has also won a silver at the 2019 World Championships. She was also a part of the 400m women’s relay in all these events, bagging gold in each one of them.
