Formed by Nate Ruess, Andrew Dost, and Jack Antonoff, the band fun. was begun in 2008 in New York City. Singer Nate Ruess was originally in the band The Format, yet broke away to form a trio with Andrew Dost of Anathallo and Jack Antonoff of Steel Train. The trio released their debut album titled Aim and Ignite in 2009, which featured the popular tracks “The Gambler” and “Be Calm”. It was not, however, until their second album that they reached a level of international fame. Their sophomore album Some Nights was released in 2012, and was carried to fame by the singles “Some Nights”, “We Are Young” with Janelle Monae, and “Carry On”. “We Are Young” went to #1 on the US Billboard Hot 100 as well as to the #1 slot in the UK. “Some Nights” also attained major success, as it went to #3 on the Hot 100 chart. 2013 saw their recognition at the Grammy Awards, as they won for Best New Artist and for Song of the Year for “We Are Young”.
