Emily King was born on July 10, 1985 in New York City to singing duo Marion Cowings and Kim Kalesti. She pursued a music career, doing smalltime performance at restaurants and venues until her debut album East Side Story released to critical success, earning her a Grammy nomination. King went independent and opened for several artists such as Maroon 5, Alicia Keys, Chaka Khan, Nas, and Erykah Badu, she was awarded the Holly Award from The Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2012 in recognition of her true, great, and original music. Her second album came in 2015 titled The Switch.
