Max Von Sydow Bio

Max Von Sydow was born on April 10, 1929 in Lund, Sweden. Sydow has starred in more than 100 films and television shows, making his debut in 1949 in Only a Mother. He worked on several films in quick succession in the 1950s, most notably in The Seventh Seal, which gave him international popularity. His American film debut was in the film The Greatest Story Ever Told (1965). He appeared in The Exorcist in 1973 and earned a Golden Globe nomination for his work on both that film and Hawaii (1966).

Sydow earned an Oscar nomination in 1987 for his role in Pelle the Conqueror. He earned even more acclaim for roles in Hamsum, King Lear, What Dreams May Come and Snow Falling on Cedars. Minority Report in 2003 provided him with commercial success. He returned to television in 2009 for work on the Tudors before filming Robin Hood and Shutter Island in 2010. In 2016, he joined the cast of Game of Thrones. His awards include the European Film Award for Best Actor in Pelle the Conqueror in 1998 along with the AACTA Award for Best Lead Actor in 1990’s Father.
