Zion Williamson Bio

Zion Williamson is an American basketball player born in Salisbury, North Carolina on July 6, 2000. He plays as a small forward and power forward. Williamson knew he wanted to play professional basketball since the age of 5. At 9 years old he would wake up at 5 a.m. every morning to train. Before entering high school he played for the Sumter Falcons on the Amateur Athletic Union. In middle school, he played basketball for his school team at Johnakin Middle School in Marion, South Carolina. He went on to play for his high school team, the Griffins, at Spartanburg Day School in Spartanburg, South Carolina. As a freshman, he earned All-State and All-Regional honors and led the Griffins to the South Carolina Independent School Association state championship. In 2016 he was part of the National Basketball Players Association Top 100 camp and was the top scorer. Williamson was named MVP of the 2017 Adidas Nations camp and in 2018 he earned South Carolina Mr. Basketball recognition. He started playing college basketball in 2018 for Duke University. He played his debut game on August 15, 2018 against Ryerson University. In 2019 he was named National College Player of the Year and won the Karl Malone Award and the Wayman Tisdale Award. On April, 15, 2019 he declared his eligibility for the 2019 NBA Draft.
