Undergrünnen is a Norwegian rock band from Haugesund, formed in 2014. The band consists of Ørjan Haaland and Steinar Lie from The Low Frequency in Stereo and Lumen Drones, Pål Jackman from Wunderkammer, Njål Clementsen and Linn Frøkedal. They made their debut in 2015, releasing their self-titled album of nine songs on Jansen Records. The next year, Undergrünnen released the album Ørkesløs fryd, followed by Ein revnande likegyldighet in 2020. They have been nominated for the Norwegian Grammy Awards twice.
They refer to their music as jungle kraut, which means a mix of 60’s psychedelia garage rock, afrobeat music, jazz, and minimalistic new wave. They are influenced by kraut bands from Germany like Can, Neu, Popol Vuh, and also artists like Ali Farka Touré, Salif Keita, Fela Kuti, and many more.
