Amadou & Mariam are a husband-and-wife duo from Mali. They met at Mali’s Bamako Institute for the Young Blind, having both become blind in their youth. The duo performed and won success at home in Mali, especially Amadou, who also worked on a successful solo career for which he received many awards and much praise. In 1986, Amadou & Mariam, decided to leave Mali and settle in the neighbouring Ivory Coast in order to access more recording resources. By 1991, the pair had released four tapes of their work and generated a solid fanbase that got them invited to record new music in Paris and tour there. In 2004 the couple released their breakthrough album, Dimance a Bamako, which led to a big tour spanning Europe and Africa. They have collaborated with several artists and been part of performances for big philanthropic causes as well as released more music with their studio album, La Confusion, which was released in September of 2017.
