Christopher Scott Thile is an American Singer/Songwriter and professional Mandolinist who was born on February 20, 1981, in Oceanside, California. He became known due to his work in the progressive acoustic group named “Nickel Creek”, which got to perform at several “Bluegrass” festivals in California. In 1993 he won the mandolin championship at the “Walnut Valley Festival” in Kansas, and the musical group started working with Sugar Hill label, getting to release a total of 6 studio albums.
In 2006 “Nickel Creek” band split up and Chris put together a bluegrass band named “Punch Brothers” including members Chris Eldridge, Greg Garrison, and Noam Pikelny. The band has already released 5 studio albums and 2 EP editions with a couple more in the line. Chris released his first truly solo album in June of 2021 called “Laysongs” where he combined original songs and a few covers that marked the start of his solo career.
