Laurie Metcalf is an American theater, television and movie actress. She was born Laura Elizabeth Metcalf on the 16th of June, 1955, in Carbondale, Illinois, U.S. She studied acting at the Illinois State University alongside fellow actor John Malkovich. She made her stage debut in an Off-Broadway production of “Balm in Gilead” in 1984, for which she earned an Obie Award for Best Actress. Her theatre credits include more than 30 plays, for which she has received several Tony Awards and nominations. In 1978 she made her film debut in a small role in the movie “A Wedding”. She went on to act in more than 20 movies including “Lady Bird” in 2017 for which she was nominated for an Academy Award, a Golden Globe Award, a SAG Award, and a BAFTA Award. She is also known for portraying Jacqueline “Jackie” Harris in the television series “Roseanne”, for which she was nominated for two Golden Globes, besides winning three Primetime Emmy awards.
