Assata Perkins, known as Sa-Roc, is an American rapper born on December 28, 1981, in Southeast Washington, D.C., United States. After graduating from the Nation House School, she attended the College of Arts and Sciences at Howard University in Washington, D.C. From her early life, Assata was an activist, major music fan, and songwriter. She started a collaboration with music producer Sol Messiah after she began shaping her sound and artistic style. Sa-Roc started her music career in 2002. She didn't release any record in the next six years. In 2008, she released her first EP, Astral Chronicles, and a debut album called Supernova. Her music is a combination of socially conscious lyrics, technically acrobatic flows, and clean production. The narrative of her songs is colored both with motifs of social awareness and painfully personal experiences that give the music a more intimate connection with the listeners. Assata is a member of Rhymesayers Entertainment, an independent hip-hop record label from Minneapolis. The most recent records she recorded and released under Rhymesayers Entertainment are The Sharecropper's Daughter (2020) and Sharecropper's Daughter Deluxe (2021).
