St Germain is the intimidating stage name of Ludovic Navarre, a French house/jazz fusion artist. He started off recording in the early 1990s for various labels, until releasing his debut studio album “Boulevard” (1996), featuring the trumpet work of Pascal Ohse. The album is an amazing blend of old styles and newest tech, and it has sold over one million copies worldwide.
And St Germain was just getting started. He released the follow-up “Tourist” at the turn of the millennium to sales of four million copies worldwide. This time the range was expanded, to piano pieces, reggae, and jazz experiments which sound like Sun Ra time-traveled into this century. Since then he has remixed and released these inspirations, now mentoring a whole collective of instrumentalists. It’s a thrilling time to watch this career unfold.
