Bartees Strange Bio

Bartees Leon Cox Jr., better known as Bartees Strange, is an English-American singer, songwriter, and musician celebrated for his dynamic fusion of indie rock and alternative hip-hop. He was born in Ipswich, England, on January 30, 1989.

Before his musical career took flight, Cox served as the director of communications for a nonprofit environmental organization based in Washington D.C. Transitioning to Brooklyn, he contributed his talents to the post-hardcore band Stay Inside from 2016 to 2018. In late 2017, Cox unveiled his inaugural solo project, the acoustic folk EP "Magic Boy," initially released under the moniker Bartees & The Strange Fruit.

His creative journey continued with the release of an EP titled "Say Goodbye to Pretty Boy" in March 2020, featuring re-imagined covers of tracks by The National, marking his association with Brassland. Recognized as an "Artist To Watch" by Stereogum, Cox launched his debut solo album, "Live Forever," on October 2, 2020. The album, blending elements of hip-hop, indie rock, and jazz, garnered widespread acclaim, propelled by standout tracks like "Boomer," "Wretched," and "Mustang." Cox's artistic prowess shines through in albums such as "Farm to Table" and "Say Goodbye To Pretty Boy."
