Melissa McCarthy Bio
American actress and comedian Melissa Ann McCarthy, born 26th August 1970 in Illinois, USA, started her career as a stand-up comedian. Melissa studied at the Actors Studio and became a member of the comedy troupe, The Groundlings. While pursuing comedy, she appeared in D.C., Charlie’s Angels, The Third Wheel, and Curb Your Enthusiasm. The actress landed her breakthrough role and won over audiences playing the beloved Sookie St. James on the hit show, Gilmore Girls. She went on to appear in Samantha Who, Rita Rocks, and Private Practice, before snagging the lead role in Mike & Molly. McCarthy won an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series in Mike & Molly. Melissa starred in the critically acclaimed Bridesmaids, and appeared in Identity Thief, The Heat, Ghostbusters, Central Intelligence, and The Boss. She reprised her role as Sookie in Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life. McCarthy also appeared on Saturday Night Live, and won an Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series.
