John Goodman Bio

John Stephen Goodman was born on June 20, 1952 in Affton, Missouri. He decided he wanted to be an actor after he got injured and had to quit playing college football. He started out doing voiceovers, small plays, and various off-Broadway projects.  He appeared in the film Big River in 1985, which landed him a Drama Desk nomination.

Goodman has held countless comedy roles, including appearances in Saturday Night Live and other late night comedy shows. He was awarded a spot on the St. Louis Walk of Fame in 1997, which was one year before he starred on his most iconic role as Dan Conner on Roseanne alongside Roseanne Barr and Laurie Metcalfe. Roseanne, which ran until 1997, has appeared on many “greatest shows of all time” lists and a revival series is set to be released in 2018.

Goodman has also appeared in popular television shows and movies including O Brother, Where Art Thou?, The West Wing, Futurama, Monsters, Inc., Community, The Artist, and Argo. He has numerous award nominations and wins for both big and small parts throughout the years, most notably several Golden Globes Awards and Emmy Awards for his work on Roseanne. He was inaugurated as a Disney Legend in 2013 and he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2017.
