Avery Sunshine Bio

Avery*Sunshine, born Denise Nicole White, is an American gospel and neo-soul singer, songwriter and pianist from Chester, Pennsylvania. Sunshine attended Spelman College in Atlanta, where she was recruited for an apprenticeship in music, allowing her to enter Atlanta’s R&B scene. Sunshine’s popularity grew around the city, garnering the attention of many artists. In 2005, she was the lead keyboardist for Tyler Perry’s stage play, Meet The Browns. She then was sought out by Grammy award winning artist, Jennifer Holiday, to be the choral director for the popular theatre show, Dreamgirls at the 2007 National Black Arts Festival in Atlanta. Gaining more national popularity, Sunshine performed at the 2008 Democratic National Convention and most notably for her performance at Barack Obama‘s inauguration in 2009. It was only in 2010 where Sunshine released her self titled debut album, ‘Avery*sunshine Album’, which features Roy Ayers and Christian McBride. The album features her most popular song to date, ‘Blessin Me’ with 3 million plays on Spotify. In the same year as her debut release, Avery landed the lead role in musical drama, ‘I Dream’ by Jasmine Guy. Following her success, she toured with B.B. King and Ledisi in 2011. In 2013, Avery signed with record label Shanachie to release her most popular album to date, ‘The Sun Room’. The album flourished upon its release, landing at number 3 spot on Billboard’s Heatseekers Chart. Singles such as ‘Sweet Afternoon’ and ‘Call My Name’ are amongst the top most played songs of Avery Sunshine. Her latest upcoming release, ‘Twenty Sixty Four’ is due sometime in 2020.
