Daley, born Gareth Daley, is a British R&B singer-songwriter from Manchester. He is widely known for co-writing and featuring on Gorillaz’s single, ‘Doncamatic’ and for his own single, ‘Alone Together’. Daley started to pursue his music at 21, performing at several open mics and talent shows around the UK, specifically in Camden and Hoxton. In 2010, his voice garnered the attention of Gorillaz’s co-creator and lead singer, Damon Albarn and invited Daley to collaborate with them on their album, Plastic Beach. This increased public recognition of the young artist and was eventually asked to take part in BBC Introducing, an emerging artist platform. It was only until 2011 where he self-released his first solo mixtape, ‘Those Who Wait’, debuting his soul-electronica sound, creating an online fanbase with 50,000 downloads in its first month of release. Daley followed this up with his first studio debut, ‘Days + Nights’ in 2016, with his biggest hits to date, ‘Alone Together’ with 6 million plays on Spotify, ‘Look Up’ with 3 million plays and ‘Time Travel’ with 1 million plays. By 2017, the soul artist released his sophomore album, The Spectrum, which was received well by the public featuring UK artists such as Jill Scott and Swindle. This album landed on the Billboard Independent Chart at number 13 and his single with Jill Scott, ‘Until The Pain is Gone’ spent 16 weeks on the Adult R&B Airplay chart.
