Mary J. Blige, full name Mary Jane Blige (January 11, 1971) is a Grammy winning American singer, songwriter and actress. Born in Bronx, New York, began her music career with Uptown Records as a backup singer for local artist Father MC. In 1991, Sean “Puffy” Combs helped Blige produce her debut album, ‘What’s The 411?’ which received positive reviews and landed at number 6 on the Billboard 200 and was at the top of the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. The certified 3x platinum album won Blige two Soul Train Music awards in 1993 for Best R&B Album (Female) and Best New R&B Artist. Blige’s popularity in the R&B scene began to rise and thus led to the release of her second album, ‘My Life’ in 1993. Similarly to her first album, ‘My Life’ was a huge success, landing at number one on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart and number two on the US Billboard 200.
