Marian Mereba, popularly known as Mereba (September 19, 1990) is an American R&B singer and songwriter from Birmingham, Alabama. The 30 year-old singer graduated from Spelman college in Atlanta, Georgia with an English degree and minor in music. During her degree, she wrote and co-wrote songs for other artists through Def Jam music. Wanting to pursue her own music, she self-released her debut EP in 2013 titled ‘Room for Living’. Her second EP, ‘Radio Flyer’, was scheduled for release in 2014 but was never released. In 2015, she gained recognition for her collaborations with hip-hop group Spillage Village on their project Bears Like This Too. Spillage Village members J.I.D, EARTHGANG and 6LACK have also featured Mereba on their solo projects. Her two singles from the unreleased EP, ‘September’ and ‘Radio Flyer’ were part of her EP ‘Kotton House, Vol. 1’ in 2017. Her mesmerizing R&B vocals and poetic lyrics landed her a record deal with Interscope Records in 2018 releasing her hit single, ‘Black Truck’ with 3 million plays on Spotify. Establishing her sound in the R&B scene, Interscope released Mereba debut album in 2019, ‘The Jungle Is The Only Way Out’ containing hit single ‘Sandstorm’ featuring J.I.D. Mereba is spoken highly of by magazines such as Vogue describing Mereba to have “the kind of soft, hypnotizing vocals that can lull you into a meditative state no matter the subject” and One’s To Watch says “Mereba has pushed the boundaries of R&B and established herself as a voice of the future.”
