Willson Contreras Bio
Willson Contreras is a Venezuelan professional baseball catcher that plays for the Chicago Cubs. He was born in Puerto Cabello, Venezuela on May 13, 1992. Contreras left Venezuela to move to the United States to further his baseball career. In 2009 he was signed with the Chicago Cubs as an international free agent. He played in the minor league for several years with the teams the Daytona Cubs, the Tennessee Smokies, and the Kane County Cougars. While playing in the minor league he played the positions first base, second base, third base, left field, right field, and catcher. In 2016 he made his debut in Major League Baseball after being promoted to the Chicago Cubs major league team. On June 19, 2016 he hit a two-run home run on the first pitch of his first major-league at-bat and became the 30th player in the modern Major League Baseball era to do that. In 2017 after hitting 5 home runs in 6 games he was chosen as the National League’s Player of the week on August 8th. In 2018 he was voted to start in the All-Star Game.
