Born Rebbeca Marie Gomez on March 2, 1997, the popular singer and dancer Becky G from Inglewood, California, first gained recognition on the Internet when she posted videos of herself singing renditions of popular songs in 2011. In an effort to help her family with their financial troubles, Becky G began lending her voice to commercials and voice-overs when she was very young. She gained an interest in music, especially rap and pop, and began recording herself rapping lyrics over the pop songs of the day, which she posted to her YouTube page. When she posted her rendition of the song “Otis” by Kanye West and Jay-Z, she was picked up by songwriter Dr. Luke, who had her signed to Sony Music Entertainment through Kemosabe Records.
In 2012, Becky G had the opportunity to sing on Cher Lloyd’s single “Oath”, which Becky G also wrote. Working alongside Will.i.am, Becky G released the single “Problem” in late 2012, which was featured in the Sony Pictures movie Hotel Transylvania. She was later included in the making of Ke$ha’s remix of “Die Young” with Juicy J and Wiz Khalifa. Becky G finally released an EP in early 2014 entitled Play It Again EP along with a few singles off of her debut album, including the song “Shower”.
