Sofia Anna Kenin, popular as Sonya, is a professional tennis player born in Moscow, Russia, on November 14, 1998. She was trained at a young age by Rick Macci and appeared with him in several United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) training videos. In addition, she has trained under Nick Bolletierri and Richard Lansdorp.
Sofia started playing United States Tennis Association (USTA) tournaments, Girls' 10 Singles, at age 7, and achieved a number one ranking in the State of Florida in the G10 Division. In 2014, she represented Team USA in tennis at the Summer Youth Olympics in Nanjing, China. She turned pro on September 5, 2017.
In 2018, she was a quarter-finalist at the ASB Classic, a semifinalist at the Mallorca Open, and reached the second round at the Wimbledon Championships. In 2019, Sofia won her first WTA Doubles Championship with Eugenie Bouchard and won her first WTA Singles Championship. Her highest ranking is number four. She was named the 2019 WTA Most Improved Player of the Year.
