Thea Gilmore Bio

Thea Gilmore is an English rock and folk musician, singer and songwriter. She was born Thea Eve Gilmore on the 25th of November, 1979, in Oxford, England. Her interest in music began at a young age, fueled by her father’s record collection, which included artists like Bob Dylan, The Beatles and Joni Mitchell, that would become later influences on her music. She began writing and composing her own songs at age 15. She released her first album in 1998, titled “Burning Dorothy” which earned her recognition and a reputation in the UK music scene. In 2002, she took part in the folk soul project The Reel and Soul Association alongside Kellie While, Maartin Allcock among other musicians. The group released a self-titled album and made numerous television appearances including in the BBC’s Top of the Pops 2. In 2003, she made a breakthrough with the release of her album “Avalanche” which made it to the Official UK Album Chart. In 2004, she opened the Joan Baez tour in the U.S. She released over 10 albums from 2003 to 2019, including “Murphy’s Heart” and “Don’t Stop Singing” with Sandy Denny.
