Joe Flaherty is an American actor, comedian, and voice artist born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on June 21, 1941. He is best known for being a cast member and writer on the Canadian sketch comedy show SCTV from 1976 to 1984 and for his role as Harold Weir on the show Freaks and Geeks. Flaherty moved from his hometown of Pittsburgh to Chicago to pursue his comedy career with the Second City Theater. After a number of years, he moved to Toronto to start the Toronto Second City Theatre troupe. He made his debut on television in the show SCTV and continued landing roles in the shows Maniac Mansion, Freaks and Geeks, That’s ’70s Show and Clone High. In 1941 he made his debut in film in the movie 1941 and has since had roles in the films Used Cars, Heavy Metal, Stripes, Going Berserk, One Crazy Summer, Club Paradise, Innerspace, Happy Gilmore, The Wrong Guy, Snowboarding Academy, National Security, Stackers and more. Throughout his career he has been nominated for several awards and has won two Primetime Emmy Awards and two Gemini Awards.
