Eluveitie is a Swiss folk and melodic metal band from Zurich, Switzerland. Originally from the town Winterthur, Zurich, the band was founded in 2002 by vocalist Christian “Chrigel” Glanzmann (May 27. 1975) which was originally set as a studio project with numerous musicians lending their voice each track. Eventually, Glanzmann decided to turn the project into a ten-piece band. Members include Ivo Henzi and Siméon Koch on guitar, Rafi Kirder on bass, Meri Tadic on violin, Sevan Kirder on whistles, gaita and flute, Anna Murphy on hurdy-gurdy and Merlin Sutter on drums. The band produced a traditional death mental sound with pagan influences and Gaulish semantics. The group had their first performance at Swiss metal festival Elements of Rock and impressed Dutch record label Fear Dark, signing with them shortly after their performance. By 2004, Eluveitie released their first EP titled ‘Vên’ then went on to tour with Fear Dark bands such as Random Eyes, Pantokrator and Slechtvalk. In 2006, the band released their first full length debut titled ‘Spirit’ and performed around Europe in support of their album. The band eventually moved over to German record label Nuclear Blast and released their second full-length album, ‘Slania’ in 2008. ‘Slania’ was considered Eluveitie’s breakthrough album where the band began to receive global plays for their album. Additionally, the album peaked on the Swiss Charts at number 35 as well as the German charts at number 72. In 2009, the band released ‘Evocation 1: The Arcane Dominion’ followed by another album, ‘Everything Remains (As It Never Was)’ in 2010. By 2012, their album ‘Helvetios’ was released, leading to a solo South American tour. 2014 was a favourable year for the metal group when they won the Swiss Music Awards’ Best Live Act National Award. The band’s latest album was released in 2019 titled ‘Live at Masters of Rock 2019’. Eluveitie is still actively touring today “propelling mythology, pagan belief and spirtuality into out modern world”, as said on their Spotify.
