Born in 1965, DJ Jazzy Jeff (Jeff Townes) is a DJ and producer from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. DJ Jazzy Jeff’s early career involved a partnership with Will Smith, who at the time was going by the stage name the Fresh Prince. The two achieved widespread fame for their work together, winning Grammy awards for 1989’s single “Parents Just Don’t Understand” and 1992’s single “Summertime”. When the two no longer performed together as DJ Jazzy Jeff & the Fresh Prince, DJ Jazzy Jeff continued to assist with Will Smith’s solo rap career, as well as launching his own solo album in 2002, “The Magnificent”.
