Wilko Johnson Bio
John Wilkinson, also known as Wilko Johnson, is a British rock & roll guitarist born in Canvey Island, Essex, in 1947. His professional career as a musician started in the early 1970’s when he joined the influential pub-rock band Dr. Feelgood, with which he wrote a number of hits, mostly featured in the live album “Stupidity” (1976). By 1978 he had formed a backing band called the Solid Senders, with whom he released several albums until the mid ‘1980s. In 1988 along with the release of the LP “Barbed Wire Blues” the project changed its name to The Wilko Johnson Band and started undergoing some lineup changes involving members from British groups like Blockheads, Curve, and Watt-Roy. In the 1990’s, the band toured Japan and Europe. In 2010 a documentary titled “Temple's Oil City Confidential” about Dr. Feelgood and Johnson’s trajectory re-ignited a commercial demand in his music, prompting the release of a compilatory album and a studio collaboration with Roger Daltrey from The Who.
